Mobile Apps Keep City Employees and Community Connected and Informed

City officials were struggling to find ways to keep their community members informed about available services, updates to transit schedules, and provide an avenue for two-way communication.

Working with the team at Stoneridge Software, they developed both an internal and external app that would not only provide information each group was looking for but provide the opportunity for users to communicate important updates or requests.

Mobile App for Employees

The employee mobile app provided team members a single location to access important forms, information about services, and view and update divisions. In the ‘divisions’ area of the app, employees can update information related to their job role that have an immediate impact on the community. For example, bus drivers can update anticipated route stop times and communicate any delays related to weather or other schedule interruptions in real-time. Once entered in the app, the information updates on the community app in real-time.

Mobile App for Community

The community member app provides a single resource for constituents to access information important to them including:

  • Community Job Openings
  • COVID-19 Testing Locations and Information
  • Transit information with updated routes, schedules, route delays, and pick up times
  • YouTube videos published by the city
  • Announcements from any public service department
  • Hours and contact information

Additionally, community members are able to communicate directly with the city to request services or provide feedback. Users can opt in to receive text message notifications when their request is responded to, or when city departments they have selected publish an update or issue an announcement.

By taking advantage of the flexibility of the Power Platform and creating these two apps, the city can now effectively and efficiently communicate with both their employees and constituents.
