1. What do you like most about being a Developer at Stoneridge Software?
Our industry is forever changing so I am constantly learning and fine-tuning my skills as a developer. I like being challenged every day whether that be a simple bug fix, a new feature, or an integration. Writing code is a creative outlet and at Stoneridge, I get to build elegant solutions that help facilitate our client’s current job routine. I enjoy having to put myself in the user’s shoes in order to provide a solution. I have the opportunity to develop my knowledge about the business and sector my clients are involved in. I get to play around and learn new technologies that our client may already have in place and how these technologies will integrate with Microsoft Dynamics Finance and Operations. The culture and talent at Stoneridge is top tier. I have been in the Partner circle for years and while at Stoneridge, I have encountered some of the smartest people during my career. I work with a bunch of self-proclaimed technology nerds and I love being able to collab with my colleagues on projects. Everyone is committed to technical excellence and always willing to assist with tough issues. The stereotype of a programmer sitting in a room alone, coding all day, is far from reality. I work as part of a team and I share my knowledge and ideas with my team to expand my understanding of good development practices, as well as how systems work to ensure I achieve the solution.
2. How did you get into Software Development?
I took my first HTML course in high school and from there I started learning about object-oriented programming. I landed my first job implementing Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009. It allowed me to take what our clients found frustrating about their work and improve it. I was able to take processes that were manual and put them into the ERP system. There’s nothing more satisfying than solving a problem that has been around for a while and nobody else knows how to solve it.
3. Where do you live and what do you like most about living there?
I live in Clearwater, Florida. I like the warm weather and all the activities Florida has to offer. Florida has many beautiful beaches and Clearwater Beach is one of the best white-sand beaches in the US. Florida also has hidden springs and underwater caves to explore. Since living in Florida, one of my favorite activities is snorkeling. Overall, Florida’s varying landscapes and cultures make it easy to take weekend trips. I also must mention Tampa’s Cigar City Brewery and, of course, stone crabs!
