Microsoft Dynamics AX New Version Announcement

It feels a little weird to call the new version of AX "Microsoft Dynamics AX" but that's going to be the name of the product going forward. The plan for future releases is to do smaller, incremental releases that build on the cloud platform, so Microsoft appears to be aiming to remove the year from the name of the product so customers concentrate on the platform and not the latest release.

The artist formerly known as AX "7", has been in development for four years and is expected to release in Q1 of 2016.  There will be a public preview starting in December 2015 so customers will be able to get their hands on it outside of a TAP program. The product will first be available to new customers on Windows Azure in the public cloud with the on-premise and upgrade being delivered in the second half of 2016.

The product is a compelling one. The user interface leverages the latest technology and years of usability research to make it very intuitive for its users. The new task guide is really going to help users understand what they are doing in the system. On the right hand side of each screen, you can use the task recorder functionality to have the system write up the steps users can follow on that page.  I mentioned that to a group of 40 people at a recent AX User's Group in Minneapolis and I got lots of "oohs" and "aahs."
