Default Settings to Improve the Microsoft Dynamics AX User Experience
Do you ever find yourself wishing you could change the behavior of Microsoft Dynamics AX to make your interaction easier? Here are a few simple tips, none of which require a developer, to help personalize and improve your user experience.
SET DEFAULT COMPANY ON AX LAUNCH
Default settings can allow a user to open the same company every time the launch AX. Navigate to File > Tools > Options > General Tab > Options FastTab - Start company accounts and select desired company from the dropdown.
CHANGE AUTOCOMPLETE SETTINGS
Autocomplete settings can be turned on and off on a user-by-user basis. To change settings, navigate to File > Tools > Options > General Tab > Interface Options FastTab - select Autocomplete checkbox accordingly.
CHANGE INFOLOG ERROR SETTINGS
Many users are performing a small number of tasks in a limited number of windows, and tend to see the same Infolog warnings over and over. If those warnings are always of the same nature, and the user doesn't need to take any additional action, they can cause a noticeable slowdown, as the user must use their mouse to close the window. To change the Infolog settings to present errors only, navigate to File > Tools > Options > General Tab > Interface Options FastTab and select Errors only from the Infolog Detail level dropdown.
AUTOMATICALLY OPEN ALL LIST PAGES WITH THE GRID FILTER ENABLED
Do you find yourself having to Ctrl-G on every list page to search the list? You can change your settings so that all grid lists (even those in FactBoxes) open automatically with the grid filter available. Navigate to File > Tools > Options > General Tab > Interface Options FastTab and select the Grid - Filter by grid on by default checkbox accordingly.
DEFAULT MODE WHEN OPENING MASTER RECORDS
Do you find it frustrating that some master records open in Edit mode, and others open in View mode? Change your settings to always open in Edit mode by navigating to
File > Tools > Options > General Tab, Interface options FastTab, Default view/edit mode and selecting Edit from the dropdown menu.
REMOTE DESKTOP EXPORTS TO EXCEL
Specify whether exports to Excel from AX in a Remote Desktop session export to an instance of Excel in the remote desktop session or to the local client by navigating to File > Tools > Options > General Tab, Miscellaneous FastTab and selecting the appropriate option from the Remote Desktop session exports to dropdown list.
AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN
Concerned about AX being left open when you walk away from your desk and get caught up in discussion around the Keurig? You can set AX to automatically shutdown after a designated number of minutes of inactivity by navigation to File > Tools > Options > General Tab > Interface Options FastTab, and setting the desired number of minutes in the Security > Automatic shutdown field.
