Entering inventory in test is a common situation for those who do the care and feeding of AX production environments. There might be a question about the way production orders are working for a particular item. You need to run an order in test to answer the question – and it needs to be done quickly. So you enter an order for Item D0111, for a quantity of 100. You estimate it, and release it, everything goes smoothly. But when you start it, you see:

What now? Let’s look at the Bill of Materials for this order.  > click on BOM:

Bill of Materials

Select the first item and right click to expose the drop-down menu. Click > view details to see the component:

Bill of Materials

Select the Manage Inventory tab on the Release product details form:

Manage Inventory

View the on-hand inventory:

Select > Quantity Adjustment:

Quantity Adjustments

Click > new if needed:

Use the Counting form to add inventory for testing purposes:

Repeat as needed for the other items on the BOM.

Do not use this in production, of course. It’s not much use if you are testing for financial dimensions either, because it looks like inventory is magically appearing. But, it does let you finish an order for testing things like RAF Journal posting and label printing.
