How to Fix a Binary Deployment Fail in Dynamics 365 for Finance & Operations

By Jackie Olson | June 5, 2018

Today, I'm going to walk you through an easy fix for a binary deployment fail in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. Here is the symptom, cause, and resolution.

Symptom: (D365 for Operations and Finance) Binary Deployment Fails - Error "Preparing this environment for servicing has failed. Please click the Resume button to retry the failed operation."

Cause: Low Disk Space

Resolution: Download the log files from the failed operation. Make sure to give it a short simple name. Look through the logs and search for the cause of the error.

In my case, it was due to the J:\ drive being full. With the help of a Microsoft AX support technician, here are some of the folders/files you may delete from the J:\Drive

  1. For the monitoring agent, you can delete the files from this location “J:\MonAgentData\SingleAgent\Tables”; any locked files should be skipped.
  2.  If you have a lot of old packages in the DeployablePackages folder then any older packages that aren’t needed can be deleted/moved.
  3.  Make sure the recycle bin is emptied.

Also, check the section “Issue: Package deployment fails even though no steps failed” in this article, Troubleshooting guide for package deployment issues. There are some notes on the registry settings you can add that will help with when clean-up occurs.
