Management Reporter 2012 – Reset Data Mart for Dynamics AX

by | Updated August 15, 2016 | Dynamics AX, Management Reporter, Set Up

Management Reporter 2012 utilizes two databases. One of these databases stores report metadata, user information and other application information. Management Reporter also uses a data mart database which stores financial information in a format optimized for financial statement reporting. At times the data in this data mart database can get out of sync and need to be reset.  At this point there is not an option to reset this data through the application. Instead, we need to reset the data mart which involves recreating the data mart database and setting up the integration to Dynamics AX again from the MR Configuration Console.

Summary of steps to reset the data mart database:

  1. Remove integration to AX
  2. Stop the Management Reporter service
  3. Delete the data mart database
  4. Start the Management Reporter services
  5. Use the Management Reporter configuration utility to create the data mart database
  6. Enable the integration

    Hi Craig,

    Beautiful instructions … thanks!!

Just curious if you know of a way to monitor for the synchronization of the data mart? Instead of relying on someone reporting that it doesn’t seem correct, I’d like to be able to identify when there are synchronization issues.

    Hi Kristin:

I don’t believe there is a current tool for monitoring the synchronization status of the data mart. Your Management Reporter data mart should not get out of sync frequently. Here are a few scenarios which would cause a Data Mart reset to be completed. If your data mart is out of sync more frequently we’d want to troubleshoot further to determine the cause and/or possibly open a technical support incident with Microsoft Support.

    1. You refresh a copy of your AX database (such as copying Production down to a test environment and you use Management Reporter in this TEST environment).
    2. Your Management Reporter integration is stopped for more than 3 days. The SQL Server default setting is to retain Change Tracking data for 3 days. This can be modified in SQL but otherwise, anything over 3 days would require a data mart reset.
    3. You restore a copy of your Production AX database.

    Hello

I would like a step by step guide on uninstalling Management Reporter 2012…

    Really need help on this..

  4. Brandon Carmichael

    Hello Sunday:

To uninstall individual Management Reporter 2012 components or integrations, complete the following procedure:
    1. Open the Management Reporter configuration console.
    2. To remove the application service or process service, select the service under the Management Reporter Services node in the navigation pane. Click Remove.
    3. To delete an integration, select the integration to remove under ERP Integrations. Click Remove.
    4. To delete a company that has been integrated, open Report Designer. On the Companies menu, click Companies. In the Companies dialog box, select the company to delete, and then click Delete.
    5. To uninstall all Management Reporter components, but leave data mart integrations in the Management Reporter Database, open Add/Remove Programs, and then remove Microsoft Dynamics ERP Management Reporter 2012 Server.

    What about deployment error ??
i tracked the path off log file but i don’t found it !

What can i do to solve this error ?

  6. Michael Tweiten

    Hi Ahmed,

The deployment log will list out any errors encountered while deploying the Management Reporter data mart. Can you be more specific as to what you are not finding? Does this file path exist on your environment or are you just not finding errors in your deployment log?

    Regards,
    Michael
