Microsoft Welcomes Dynamics GP into Fold with Versioning, Lifecycle Policy

By Carolyn Moltzan | September 10, 2019

Microsoft has announced the latest version of Dynamics GP will release on October 1, 2019. This version will simply be called Microsoft Dynamics GP, removing the version detail that has been linked to the product for some time. The release will include updates and functionality that will enhance the core application and platform.
The most impactful part of the announcement from Microsoft is the change in the GP lifecycle. Moving forward, Dynamics GP will follow the Modern Lifecycle Policy - aligning it with Office 365, Azure, and Dynamics 365. This transition brings GP into the fold with all other Microsoft products, showing Microsoft’s investment and commitment to the product now and in the future.

The Modern Lifecycle Policy guarantees a few key things to Dynamics GP users:

  • Microsoft will provide a minimum of 12 months' notification prior to ending support if no successor product or service is offered.
  • For products under existing lifecycle policies (such as the Fixed Lifecycle Policy), Microsoft will continue to provide servicing and support for a fixed amount of time
  • Changes for these products and services may be more frequent and require customers to be alert for forthcoming modifications to their product or service.

As far as new features and functionality in the October release, Microsoft has announced updates in finances, workflows, system enhancements, and has added features based on user requests. Additional information about each of these features will soon be available on Microsoft’s feature of the day blog.
