What’s New in NAV 2013 R2

By Scott Frappier | May 21, 2014

Since the acquisition of the Navision product in 2001, Microsoft has continued to improve the product functionality and features.  The introduction of Dynamics NAV 2009 propelled the product into a modern .NET architecture. This move allowed customers and partners to implement solutions enabling their businesses to support the growing complexities faced during normal business day to day operations.

Best Features in NAV 2013 R2

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 continues to build upon the modern architecture while maintaining an elegant simplicity that many of our customers benefit from in their respective markets.  Features that stand out with this release:

  1. Multi-Tenancy:  As cloud models become more prevalent and many ERP applications try to catch up, the Microsoft Dynamics NAV solution already provides the capability for multiple tenants.  This means one service tier can be deployed, hosting multiple databases, and the application code for the business logic is separated from these databases and applied to all of them.
  2. Office 365 Integration:  First to the party and still going strong, the Dynamics NAV solution is integrated with Office 365.  It allows for a single sign-on experience and works seamlessly as a registered application that your end-users can add from your Office 365 Application Catalog.
  3. Web Client:  Faster and more efficient, the Dynamics NAV 2013 Web Client has been improved by addressing performance bottlenecks and removing them. It integrates with SharePoint and the SharePoint document storage technologies, improves KPI and charting visibility, and integrates with Office web apps.
  4. Role Tailored Client: The main user experience has been improved to reflect the Modern UI design concepts.  Simplification of key document types (such as Sales Orders) allows for easier use of the application, along with new technical improvements such as writeable ODATA, Help Server improvements, and Performance Monitor integration.

With these improvements, the Dynamics NAV solution continues to grow and be the #1 SMB product for the Microsoft Dynamics division.  The future looks bright for our Dynamics NAV customers and partners, and Stoneridge Software is looking forward to even more improvements to future versions of the product!
