Business Central 2025 Release Wave 1: Deprecated and Mandatory Features You Should Know About
The new update for Business Central is right around the corner.
While it might be easy to focus solely on all the new functionality and features Microsoft is adding to Dynamics 365 Business Central, it is just as important to understand which features are being deprecated or removed with the update.
The 2025 Wave 1 update for Business Central will be a ‘Stepping-stone’ release. Microsoft plans to start regularly doing this every five versions. This means you can only upgrade directly to version 26(2025 Spring update) of Business Central from version 25 (2024 Fall update). The next stepping-stone release would be v.30, and so on.
Here is the upgrade path based on versions as it stands now:
- Pre-v.14 BC > upgrade to v.14 > upgrade to v.25 > upgrade or cloud migrate to v.26
- V.14 to v.24 BC > upgrade to v.25 > upgrade or cloud migrate to v.26
If you are on an older On-prem version of NAV or Business Central and planning to migrate to the cloud, the longer you wait the more complex your upgrade path will become.
Deprecated Features
- Support for PowerShell 5.0 is being replaced by PowerShell 7: It's important to migrate now to avoid losing support and take advantage of the benefits of switching.
- Removed the ability to expose a Microsoft page as a SOAP endpoint: UI page changes aren’t considered breaking, but for customers using them as web service endpoints, UI updates can impact integrations; starting in version 26, Microsoft pages can’t be exposed as SOAP endpoints, requiring a per-tenant extension for SOAP integration.
You can see the details of these deprecated Platform features on the official Microsoft site.
In addition to the above-deprecated features, some Excel and Legacy reports are being replaced, including:
- Balance Sheet (Excel)
- Income tax (Excel)
- Statement of Cash Flow (Excel)
- Aged Accounts Receivable and Payable (Legacy)
- Fixed Asset Details (Legacy)
- Customer - Top 10 List (Legacy)

Features becoming mandatory
The following features were previously optionally enabled from the ‘Feature Management’ page and will now be automatically enabled in update 26. We recommend you enable these features in a Sandbox environment before the updates to evaluate and test them.
Extending G/L Entry Aggregations When Posting Invoices
This feature is Generally Available with Update 23.1 and becoming mandatory in Update 26.0 (2025 release wave 1). The Invoice Posting interface is replacing the Invoice Post.
Buffer table. The replacement helps resolve extensibility issues for the legacy "Invoice Post. Buffer" table. You can now use your implementation of G/L invoice posting. As a developer, you can learn more about how to extend G/L entry aggregations when posting invoices

New extensible exchange rate adjustment
This feature, including the posting review feature, is generally available with Update 23.0 and becomes mandatory in Update 26.0 (2025 release wave 1). It replaces the legacy Exchange Rates Adjustment Report.
This new capability increases extensibility and makes it easier to comply with local and industry-specific requirements. It also gives you more control over exchange rate adjustments with a posting preview, how dimension values are posted when you adjust the exchange rate and better reporting.
