Dynamics AX Object Server service (AOS) will not start

In a recent troubleshooting situation with a client we came across the error message 'An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host' error in Dynamics AX. Below I outline the issue, the cause of this error and steps and resources to fix it.

ISSUE:

After restarting the SQL server service, we then tried to start the Microsoft Dynamics AX Object Server (AOS) service. AOS will not start! We saw the following errors in Application Event Viewer on the AOS server.

Object Server 01: Fatal SQL condition during login. Error message: "TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Object Server 01: SQL diagnostics: TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Connect information was: Userid = [], Database = , Server = , DSN = [], Other = []

CAUSE:

The customer had just disabled TLS 1.0.

We saw Microsoft SQL 2012 native client on SQL server was version 11.4.7562.6 in Programs and Features in Control Panel.

On the AOS server, the Microsoft SQL 2012 native client was version 11.0.xxxx. You will need a newer version.

An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host' error SOLUTION:

The fix is to update the Microsoft SQL 2012 Native client to a higher version on the AOS.

Download Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client - QFE and install it on the AOS server to resolve the issue.

Download Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 Native Client - QFE from Official Microsoft Download Center
