How to Update Your Copilot in Dynamics 365 Sales Summary Panel On An Opportunity
In this quick Dynamics 365 Sales guide, we will walk you through a few steps for using the Summary Panel within Copilot for Sales:
- How to set up the Summary widget adding it to an Opportunity form
- How to configure the Summary widget with custom fields for your business
- Licensing requirements you will need to use Copilot for Sales
Let's start by setting up the Summary Widget and tailoring it to be unique to our business needs.
Step 1: Enable the Summary Widget in the Sales Hub App
- Once you open the Sales Hub App, navigate to App Settings > Copilot > Opportunities.
- At the top of the screen, check the box to "Show Opportunity summary as a widget in the form."
Step 2: Review Default Summary Fields
Before making any changes, make sure the default Summary includes the following fields:
- From the Opportunity Record:
- Current Situation
- Custom Need
- Proposed Solution
- Purchase Timeframe
- Customer Pain Points
- Originating Lead
- Est. Revenue
- Est. Close Date
- From the Related Account:
- Primary Contact
- From the Related Contact:
- Job Title
Step 3: Add a Custom Field to the Summary
After ensuring your default fields are in the summary you can add customized ones unique to your business. For this example, we will add a custom field called "Close Approval Information":
- Click + Add Field in the Summary configuration.
- Select the "Close Approval Information" field.
- Click Add, then close the field selection panel.
- Save your changes to finalize the Summary configuration.
Step 4: Verify the Changes
To ensure the new field appears correctly in the Summary, follow these steps:
- Open an Opportunity record with data in the "Close Approval Information" field.
- If enabled, the Summary widget will appear at the top of the form.
- For a different experience, open Copilot and type: "Summarize this opportunity."
You'll notice how Copilot took our raw data of "Send SOW" and translated that back to plain English as "... sending the Statement of Work (SOW)." This is a small example of the power of generative AI in Copilot to improve the user experience.
Additional Important Notes:
- The widget version of the Summary will display the new field.
- The Copilot-generated summary (via the sidebar) may not immediately include the custom field, but it will after a short while.
The Final Result:
After you follow these steps, the Summary Widget (Form View) should now include the "Close Approval Information" field. Additionally, the Copilot Summary (sidebar) will reflect the new field after a short delay.
