Mass Closing of Financial Periods Included in Dynamics AX 2012 R3

By Tom Irsfeld | June 6, 2016

I recently was at the point in a client’s implementation where we were discussing the month-end processes. When we got to the part about closing the financial periods (or putting them on hold), I had to explain that Dynamics AX didn’t have an easy way of handling this, but that some clients export the data from the Fiscal period tables into Excel using either the Dynamics Excel Add-in or Atlas and change and update the statuses using that method.

When I did a web search to see what others were reporting on, imagine my surprise to find out that Microsoft had recently released new functionality for Dynamics AX 2012 R3 to do mass closing of financial periods. The short description of the functionality is that it allows you to mass close periods across legal entities from a single screen. The more detailed description, including screenshots, can be found at this mass financial period close Microsoft blog. The KB number on this is KB3146578, and it appears to only be available for AX 2012 R3. I can’t predict whether Microsoft will backport this to their other AX platforms, but for those of you on R3, this should prove to be a timesaver.
