Regional Discovery Service Functionality in Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement has been Deprecated – What to Do

By Jeff Wedul | July 1, 2021

The Regional Discovery Service in Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement has been deprecated. The shutdown of this service started April 21, 2021, and took effect for the U.S. on June 16, 2021.

All integrations using the Regional Discover Service to authenticate will no longer work. If you are relying on Azure Active Directory to authenticate, those integrations will continue to work. We have seen integration issues impacting those who use Scribe, Smart Connect KingswaySoft, CozyRoc, and others.

If your integration is down due to this deprecation and you wish to extend this service until you are able to upgrade, create a Microsoft support ticket asking for an extension to your Regional Discovery Services. They will be able to extend your service until the end of June 2021.

Customers must transition to using the global OData V4 Discovery Service.  That may require updating third-party integration software like Scribe, Smart Connect, Kingswaysoft, CozyRoc, and others to their latest version.

Many changes will continue to come in the upcoming releases relating to Power Apps, Power Automate, and Customer Engagement functions. To read in detail about upcoming deprecated features – listed below - please visit Microsoft’s Documentation to read in more detail.

Deprecated functions noted include:

  • Regional Discovery Service
  • Mobile offline profiles
  • Skype integration
  • Low-density headers in model-driven apps
  • From footer in model-driven apps
  • And more

Read Microsoft’s Documentation to see what actions if any need to be taken by you so you can keep your business moving forward.

As the work environment changes, so does Microsoft. Microsoft discontinues certain applications and integrates which will, in turn, affect your system.
