Check Magic No Longer Needed to Print MICR Checks in D365 Business Central

Check Magic was an all-in-one MICR check printing and electronic signature app for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and NAV 2018. Originally built by Microsoft Partner ABS (Advanced Business Systems*) to fill a gap in the solution, the app is no longer needed due to new out-of-the-box functionality in Business Central.

During the first releases of Business Central standard reports were unable to support MICR** fonts. As a result, it was impossible to print MICR encoded checks directly from Business Central. This is no longer the case as subsequent versions of Business Central releases (version 15 and beyond) now include selecting check layouts.

You can design now your checks to conform to the standards set by the local authorities. Check images can be printed in English, French, or Spanish.

Checks in Business Central are designed to print in both the United States and Canadian check image formats in either a check-stub-check format or a stub-stub-check format.

Business Central is fully equipped to streamline your electronic signature process with check layouts using MICR and security fonts. There is no more need for the Check Magic app. To learn more about check setup in Business Central view this article from Microsoft: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/finance-how-define-check-layouts

*What is MICR?

It stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition technology and is used by banks to “read” information off of paper checks. On a check, you’ll see the MICR line at the bottom: it’s the row of numbers and characters that identify the account the check draws upon.

**Microsoft Partner ABS Acquired by Stoneridge Software

ABS was acquired by Stoneridge Software in February 2020. The expert consultants who originally worked with Check Magic are now a part of the Stoneridge Software team.
